Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Jiman Nelson has been immersed in the values of hospitality, a passion for science, and a deep interest in medicine since his early years. Dentistry became the ideal career path for him, allowing him to integrate these passions into his professional life.
Dr. Nelson is a distinguished board-certified specialist in the field of periodontal plastic surgery and oral implantology. He holds the title of Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and has completed an additional residency in Advanced Education of General Dentistry. His educational journey began at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry, where he graduated with honors. He further honed his expertise at UT Houston School of Dentistry, expanding his knowledge and skills.
Throughout his professional training, Dr. Nelson emerged as a prolific clinical researcher, with multiple publications to his name. His outstanding contributions to the field have earned him numerous national accolades, including the prestigious Balint Orban Award, a distinction bestowed upon only two periodontists in the United States each year. In addition, he has received notable awards such as the ADA/DENTSPLY Research Award, Hinman Dental Research Award, Academy of Dental Materials Award, Quintessence Award for Research Achievements, and a commendable 2nd Place in the SNDA National Poster Research Competition. Dr. Nelson’s dedication to advancing dentistry through research and his exceptional achievements continue to inspire both colleagues and aspiring professionals in the field.
